Optical Disk System 6800 Automated Disk Library

Eastman Kodak Co

Kodak Automated Disk Library (ADL) is a high-capacity, WORM (write onceread many) optical system. It is available in four extremely flexibleconfigurations -- Library A, AB, AC, and AD -- to meet the varying needsof specific applications. Library options are distinguished by thenumber of drives and disks, ranging from one to three drives, and 50,100, and 150 disks. Each 14-inch disk provides 6 to 8 GB of randomlyaccessible online storage.Library A requires only 13 square feet of floor space for 340 GB ofcapacity. Users can upgrade easily to any other configuration, adding amere eight additional feet of space. For example, library AD requiresonly 21 square feet and provides more than a Terabyte of storageinformation.ADL's controller optimizes data transfer by sustaining a 1.0 MB persecond data transfer rate. The robotics are controlled through astandard RS-232 interface. The Kodak ADL is the quietest in the industry. All operations areperformed in a "mini" clean-room environment. It directly interfaces toworkstation system environments either through an Introl board or a KodakOptical Storage interface device.
